A printer fuser is a hot roller and a back up roller, which applies heat and pressure to the toner, “sandwiching” it between the roller and the medium. Typically, over time paper dust and toner dust accumulates on the HP fusers’ thermostat and cause abrasion of the heating roller. Thus, the fuser assembly’s scratches and scoring show up as a light vertical streak down printed page. Another reason for HP fusers’ failure is the quartz bulb that heats the HP fusers’ sleeve burns out. HP Laser printers may display an Error 50 Service Code, which indicates that there is a problem with the fuser assembly and will require a replacement. That is the main reason that HP Printer Maintenance Kits contain a new set of HP fusers.

When the Error 50 Service Code appears on the printer LCD, just shut down the printer. After shutting down the printer, you can visually inspect the HP fusers’ rollers for scratches and scoring. If the quartz lamp is burned out, the toner will not fuse to the paper and there is no heat radiating from the fuser assembly. Infrequently the lower voltage power supply to HP fusers’ is the source of the error 50 service code and will need to be replacement. Many manufactures including HP, IBM and Lexmark now design their systems with customer performed maintenance in mind. They offer CSR (customer replaceable units) for many of their products. HP fusers are one of those parts. Replacement is a snap out, snap in affair. Alternatively, HP Printer Maintenance Kits are wise idea as well. This problem is most common with HP 8100 laser printers and is indicated by the error 50 Service Code on the LCD. Periodically, in feed rollers, and transfer rollers of the HP fusers need to be replaced and thus are also part of each HP Printer Maintenance Kits. of normal laser printer maintenance in about every 150,000 copies. A typical HP Printer Maintenance Kits includes the fuser assembly and parts for scheduled laser printer maintenance.

Error 50 Service Code is a common nuisance that occurs. The problem is either solved by a simple turn off, wait and turn on again method or by replacing the HP fusers altogether. HP fusers are available alone or in HP Printer Maintenance Kits; which include a new set of HP fusers, new transfer rollers, and in feed rollers.
